| On Saturday, 31 January 2026, we invite you to our ball Fairy Tales, Myths and Legendsin the style of the 18th and 19th centuriesin the mirror hall ofTanzschule Hernals, Kalvarienberggasse 28a, 1st floor, 1170 Vienna. Start: 7 p.m. Admission from 6.30 p.m. On the 250th anniversary of E.T.A. Hoffmann's birth and the 200th anniversary of the publication of Wilhelm Hauff's fairy tale almanac, let us recall the colourful fantasies of human history. The queen is hosting a ball and everyone in the kingdom is invited. Saddle up your white horse, ride through the dark forests, don't get pricked by the spinning wheel or eaten in the gingerbread house, pass the three tests and enter the palace! Charles Perrault was the pioneer, and about a hundred years later the Brothers Grimm took over and transferred the old fairy tales into the modern age, adapted to the tastes of their time. During the Romantic period, the creators of literary fairy tales came onto the scene: Dr Coppelius taught us fear in 'The Sandman', Hauff whisked us away to foreign lands, and Andersen poured out his broken heart to us in 'The Little Mermaid'. Let us look forward to a colourful mix of fairy tale characters, heroes and villains at the Queen's Ball. We welcome the good and evil fairies, the witches, dwarves and princes, the seven ravens and the devil's sooty brother, the old archetypes and the heroes and heroines of fairy tales - and who knows, maybe even visitors from the distant lands of 1001 Nights will join us in our dances. We will perform and dance original dances from this period to live music - see link on the right: "Dance programme and ball preparation". The ball preparation is especially recommended for those guests who have no experience with contra dances/English country dances! Dancing master/dance caller: Pia Brocza. A buffet with small dishes is included in the admission price. Drinks are available at the bar. Ticket prices: |
